PageRank - What is PageRank?

PageRank is a very important concept in the world of SEO (search engine optimization). PageRank is basically the search engine of Googles measure of how important a page is. What page rank really measures is the amount and quality of links that a page has coming into it. Why is this important? The more links that your site has coming into a page, the more important a search engine sees that page as being and therefore may rank it higher among searches. You can have a million links to your site, however if you do not have quality keyword laden content, you still will not rank well for particular searches.

• When a link is placed on a page A to page B, page A is essentially voting for page B.
• The higher the PageRank of page A, the greater the vote for page B.
• If page A has 50 other links (counting outgoing and in site links), the vote for page B is not as great as if page A’s only outgoing link was page B.
• Page A’s rank will not be reduced by linking to page B. It is like a cold, page A can pass it to page B, but page A still has the cold.
• Pages with no links out of them are essentially wasting PageRank because they do not get to vote for any other pages.
• It is important to link your pages to one another so that the PageRank is spread out throughout your site.
• Huge sites generally have higher PageRank, because every page that is indexed by google has even the smallest PageRank and if those pages are all linking to each other then they are helping boost each others rankings.
